International Sports Law Review PANDEKTIS – Volume 15, Issues 3-4 (2025)

International Sports Law Review PANDEKTIS – Volume 15, Issues 3-4 (2025)

Pandektis, the official journal of the International Association of Sports Law (IASL), has been indexed in major databases, including SportDiscus, since 1997.

This edition features selected articles from the 26th International Congress of Sports Law, held on 13 December 2024 at the ‘Alkis Argyriadis’ Amphitheatre of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. It also presents a detailed report on the opening session in the University’s Great Hall.

Key conclusions from the conference: The Olympic Games and global sport can function effectively in today’s multipolar world if the underlying institutions and laws are fully renewed through cooperation among free states. Only then can Sports Law provide a solid legal foundation for Lex Sportiva and Lex Olympica, the rules developed by the Sports Federations and the International Olympic Committee.
In addition to the Congress articles, Issues 3-4 feature research papers by leading experts in Sports Law, with all contributors listed below: Klaus Vieweg; Dimitrios P. Panagiotopoulos; András Nemes; Alexandru-Virgil Voicu; Daniel Gandert; Marios Papaloukas; Sónia Moreira, Patrícia Sousa Borges; Anna di Giandomenico; Giovanna Morelli, Antonia Rosa Gurrieri; Anatoly N. Peskov; Yousefi Sadeghloo, Ahmad Rajabi-Elham; Consuelo Diodati; Serra Francesca Maria; Penny Konitsioti-Rizou; and Alkis Papantoniou.

University of Athens

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, which was inaugurated on May 3, 1837, was initially housed in a renovated Ottoman building on the northeastern side of the Acropolis. This building has since been restored and now functions as the University Museum. Originally named the "Othonian University," after Otto, the first king of Greece, it consisted of four academic departments and 52 students. As the first university of the newly established Greek state, as well as of the broader Balkan and Mediterranean region, it assumed an important socio-historical role, which was pivotal in the development of specific forms of knowledge and culture within the country.
