About Us

The new communication hub of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) https://hub.uoa.gr/ aims to highlight the educational, research, and social work of NKUA on the one hand and inform the general public about various scientific issues on the other. The hub hosts concise and popularized content on events, conferences, research findings, academic articles, significant distinctions, live streamings, open access resources, etc., contributed by the Schools and Departments of the University.

Funded by a bequest from the late Georgios Fotinos, this effort comprises, among other things, the development and launch of an integrated digital news platform to promote all research underway as well as the broader activity of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. NKUA’s new electronic information portal is in reality a state-of-the-art website with streaming content and research-related topics and special issues.

University of Athens

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, which was inaugurated on May 3, 1837, was initially housed in a renovated Ottoman building on the northeastern side of the Acropolis. This building has since been restored and now functions as the University Museum. Originally named the "Othonian University," after Otto, the first king of Greece, it consisted of four academic departments and 52 students. As the first university of the newly established Greek state, as well as of the broader Balkan and Mediterranean region, it assumed an important socio-historical role, which was pivotal in the development of specific forms of knowledge and culture within the country.
