On Monday, 21 July 2025, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens welcomed a delegation from Armenia, as part of efforts to deepen bilateral relations in the fields of Higher Education and culture.
Representing the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens was the Vice-Rector for Administrative Affairs, Student Welfare, and Lifelong Learning, Professor Christos Karagiannis, who was joined by his legal advisor, Ms Eleni Vrinioti, and the administrative officer from the Department of European and International Relations, Ms Athina Nikolaki.
The Armenian delegation included:
–The Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports,Ms Zhanna Andreasyan,
–The Rector of Yerevan State University, Associate Professor Hovhannes Hovhannisyan,
–The Rector of Yerevan Brusov State University of Languages and Social Sciences, Associate Professor Davit Gyurjinyan, and
–The Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the Hellenic Republic, Mr Tigran Mkrtchyan.
During the warm and constructive meeting, the Armenian delegation expressed great enthusiasm forexpanding and signing new bilateral agreements between academic Institutions in Armenia and the University of Athens. Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening cooperation—with the Departments of Theology, Philosophy, Physical Education, and Music Studies paving the way.
Further discussions focused on the development of joint initiatives, including student exchanges, the promotion of Armenian Studies at the University of Athens through Armenian state funding, and the enhancement of cultural and academic ties between the two countries.
At the same time, the Armenian side extended an official invitation to a delegation from the University of Athens to attend an international conference in Armenia, which will highlight Armenian education, language, and culture, within the context of University cooperation.
The meeting ended with both sides agreeing to advancetheir collaboration, fostering intellectual and cultural links between Greece and Armenia, built upon the two nations’ long–standing historical bonds.
