Focusing on the young, the 1st Attica Universities Student Run was launched this year as an innovative sporting event that aspires to become a long-lasting institution within Greek Universities. This new—exclusively student-oriented—initiative brings together participants from all Universities across Attica. It aims to raise awareness and involve students in the running movement, which is primarily about health and only secondarily about awards and distinctions. The Run seeks to combine physical activity with the joy of participation, foster interaction among students across various Higher Educational Institutions in Attica, and promote the University Campus as not just a place of teaching and learning but also a hub for health and well-being.

The Kapodistrian Run began in the context of our University’s 180th anniversary and has since grown into a successful yearly sporting event held at the Zografou Campus. This Run aims to promote, among other things, health through exercise and is open to students and citizens of all ages and genders as long as they have an interest in physical recreational activities.

University of Athens

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, which was inaugurated on May 3, 1837, was initially housed in a renovated Ottoman building on the northeastern side of the Acropolis. This building has since been restored and now functions as the University Museum. Originally named the "Othonian University," after Otto, the first king of Greece, it consisted of four academic departments and 52 students. As the first university of the newly established Greek state, as well as of the broader Balkan and Mediterranean region, it assumed an important socio-historical role, which was pivotal in the development of specific forms of knowledge and culture within the country.
