The Department of Classics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) – Cyprus Branch (Nicosia) invites prospective students to apply / submit an expression of interest for admission to the English-taught undergraduate program BA in the Archaeology, History, and Literature of Ancient Greece (BAAG), an eight-semester (four-year) degree.
The BAAG Cyprus Branch extends to Cyprus NKUA’s flagship English-language degree in Classical Studies, building on the University’s long academic tradition and the program’s established model of experiential, research-led learning.

A program of breadth, depth, and strong academic identity: BAAG Cyprus Branch integrates archaeology, ancient history, and ancient Greek and Latin literature, offering an interdisciplinary curriculum grounded in a liberal-arts approach and informed by current scholarship.
Experiential learning as a core principle: Students learn beyond the classroom through field trips, site visits, and museum-based seminars, with opportunities (where available) for participation in excavation-related activities, in keeping with the Athens program’s on-site and immersive ethos.
A Curriculum that Builds Expertise, Semester by Semester: BAAG Cyprus Branch offers a carefully scaffolded eight-semester curriculum that takes you from the foundations of Greek and Latin to confident, text-based and material-based analysis of the ancient world. Alongside core training in archaeology, history, and literature, you progress to advanced language mastery and specialist options—from the Archaeology of Cyprus and Plato and Aristotle to Xenophon, Hellenistic literature, and Vergil’s Aeneid.

Strategic location; Nicosia as an academic bridge: The Cyprus Branch is conceived as a bridge between Greece and Cyprus, supporting academic exchange and collaboration across the Eastern Mediterranean.
Location and Start of Teaching
Teaching for the first semester is planned to begin in October 2026 at the building of the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus, Isokratous 1–7, 1016 Nicosia.
Admissions Requirements
Admissions criteria at the Cyprus Branch align with those of the Athens BAAG program.
Applicants should normally hold:
• International Baccalaureate or a Senior High School Graduation Certificate (indicative average grade 70% or equivalent).
• English language proficiency (not required for native speakers), for example:

- TOEFL iBT overall 88 (min sub scores: L17/W17/R18/S20)
- IELTS overall 6.5 (min 5.5 in each component)
- Cambridge First Certificate (FCE): B2
For applicants from Greece or Cyprus (where applicable): results from Panhellenic / Pancyprian entrance examinations (or equivalent nationally recognized entrance/qualification routes) may be requested; for Greek candidates, the program will consider applications subject to meeting the relevant minimum admission threshold in the Panhellenic examinations.
Tuition Fees
Tuition fees are expected to be €6,000 per academic year for the Cyprus Branch.
Please note: fees cover tuition only; the cost of textbooks is borne by students. Scholarships are anticipated to be established in future academic years.

Application window and deadlines (2026–2027 intake)
• The Cyprus Branch call indicates submissions open from 1 December 2025
• Intake deadlines: 15 June 2026 for applicants who require a student visa, and 15 July 2026 for applicants who do not.
Documentation
Applicants should be prepared to provide (as applicable):
• Passport / National ID.
• Graduation diploma and final-year transcript, in the original language and in English.
• English language test results (where required).
• Short CV.
• Brief personal statement explaining motivation and suitability for the program.
• Where relevant: national entrance-exam results (e.g., Panhellenic/Pancyprian or equivalent), letters of recommendation, evidence of achievement, volunteering, etc.
Certification and translation of documents
For final enrolment processing, official certification/validation of documents and their English translations may be required (e.g., via Apostille for eligible countries, or attestation through the appropriate national authorities), consistent with the program’s documented application procedure.
Student Life and Practical Information (Nicosia)
To support students’ transition to Nicosia, the Cyprus Branch has outlined the following provisions and guidance:
• Accommodation: in collaboration with the Municipality of Nicosia and the Archbishopric, 63 newly built rooms have been secured at preferential rates.
• Meals: students cover meal costs individually; preferential meal pricing has been arranged through a local food provider, served at the Archbishopric dining facilities.
• Parking: preferential monthly parking rate available through municipal parking arrangements.
• Health coverage: students are advised to hold appropriate health insurance documentation; EU students should arrange the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) before arrival.
