1st Festival of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens ‘WE ARE UoA’ [19-21/10/2024]

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, as part of its actions to promote extroversion and inform the student community, organizes the 1st ‘WE ARE UoA’ Festival that will take place on 19, 20, and 21 October 2024 (12:00-20:00) at the NKUA’s historic main building, the Propylaea (30 Panepistimiou St, Athens). Concerts will start at 20:30 (up until 00:00).

The Rector of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Professor Gerasimos Siasos, the Members of the Administration Council, the Vice-Rectors, and the Members of the University Senate invite the entire NKUA community, particularly our students, to a three-day open event that will include, among other things:

  • A welcome to our first-year students
  • Awards to students who distinguished themselves in academic or athletic achievement
  • Career days
  • Open days to get to know the NKUA’s 42 Departments (with the presence of members of the teaching and research staff)
  • Lectures by researchers across various fields
  • Open music events and concerts with the support of music groups from the NKUA’s Department of Music Studies

A further announcement will follow shortly with the detailed daily programme of events.

University of Athens

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, which was inaugurated on May 3, 1837, was initially housed in a renovated Ottoman building on the northeastern side of the Acropolis. This building has since been restored and now functions as the University Museum. Originally named the "Othonian University," after Otto, the first king of Greece, it consisted of four academic departments and 52 students. As the first university of the newly established Greek state, as well as of the broader Balkan and Mediterranean region, it assumed an important socio-historical role, which was pivotal in the development of specific forms of knowledge and culture within the country.
