The International Conference entitled ‘Judicial Renaissance 2023’ was officially declared open by HE, the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou

On Monday, 4 September 2023, during a ceremony held at the ‘Alkis Argyriadis’ Amphitheatre of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, HE, the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, officially declared open the International Conference entitled ‘Judicial Renaissance 2023’ organized by the NKUA’s School of Law, the Hellenic Council of State, and the National Judicial College of the United States of America. On behalf of the University Authorities, the new Rector of NKUA, Professor Gerasimos Siasos, received the President of the Hellenic Republic at the premises of the University.

HE, the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, addressed the opening ceremony as did the Rector of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Professor Gerasimos Siasos.

Immediately afterwards, welcome addresses were given by the President of the Hellenic Council of State, Ms Evangelia Nika, the Dean of the NKUA’s School of Law, Professor Linos-Alexandros Sicilianos, the President of the National Judicial College of the United States of America, Mr Benes Aldana, and the Director of Strategic Initiatives of the same Institution, Ms Konstantina Vagenas. The Vice-Rectors, members of the Administrative Council, academic staff from NKUA, and members from the Hellenic Council of State were also present at the opening ceremony.

This Conference’s organizing in our country—and at our University—by the National Judicial College of the United States of America, in collaboration with the School of Law of NKUA and the Hellenic Council of State, is a significant occasion of international interest. The proceedings of the Conference run from 4 to 7 September 2023 at the ‘Alkis Argyriadis’ Amphitheatre of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

University of Athens

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, which was inaugurated on May 3, 1837, was initially housed in a renovated Ottoman building on the northeastern side of the Acropolis. This building has since been restored and now functions as the University Museum. Originally named the "Othonian University," after Otto, the first king of Greece, it consisted of four academic departments and 52 students. As the first university of the newly established Greek state, as well as of the broader Balkan and Mediterranean region, it assumed an important socio-historical role, which was pivotal in the development of specific forms of knowledge and culture within the country.
