Scientific exchange program “Philosophy of Non-Being: On the History of Negative Ontology”

The research and scientific exchange program “Philosophy of Non-Being: On the History of Negative Ontology” has recently begun, with the participation of:

– Department of History and Philosophy of Science, NKUA (Prof. Panagiotis Thanassas)

– Department of Philosophy, University of Bonn (Prof. Rainer Schäfer)

– Department of Philosophy, University of Patras (Prof. Pavlos Kontos)

The program includes three conferences and research visits among the three universities over a period of three years. It has a budget of €55,000 and is funded by the German research foundation Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung under the “Research Group Linkage Program”. The first major event is the conference on “Non-Being in Ancient and Medieval Philosophy,” to be held in Athens on March 27-28, 2023.

University of Athens

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, which was inaugurated on May 3, 1837, was initially housed in a renovated Ottoman building on the northeastern side of the Acropolis. This building has since been restored and now functions as the University Museum. Originally named the "Othonian University," after Otto, the first king of Greece, it consisted of four academic departments and 52 students. As the first university of the newly established Greek state, as well as of the broader Balkan and Mediterranean region, it assumed an important socio-historical role, which was pivotal in the development of specific forms of knowledge and culture within the country.
