Within the context of the European University CIVIS, and in collaboration between NKUA, the Autonomous University of Madrid, the University of Bucharest, and the Sapienza University of Rome, the proposal ‘SMARTT – Screening, Mapping, Analyzing, Recommending, Transferring, and Transforming HE International Programmes’ was prepared and submitted in October 2022, involving all CIVIS member Universities, CIVIS partner Universities, and the social partners.
The EU selected SMARTT along with five other proposals in the context of the call Pilot a Joint European Degree Label, which aims at moving a step closer to the development and launch of joint European degrees covering EU Member States and encouraging student mobility and strengthened cooperation between Institutions. The joint European degree label will reflect the skills and knowledge gained by students after completing a joint programme in a variety of Institutions, countries, and languages.
The selected projects will explore the criteria set out by the EU, test, and outline the procedures that will facilitate the delivery of a joint European degree label. Each selected pilot project may receive funding of up to 200,000 euros (80% of the budget) from the Erasmus+ programme for one year, beginning in spring 2023. During this time, the partnering Institutions will consider options and next steps before submitting proposals for a joint European degree at an alliance level. The joint European degree should comply with the current situation in Higher Education in the EU and its Member States.
It is worth noting that in the SMARTT project of CIVIS, NKUA has undertaken Work Package 4 ‘Communication & Dissemination’.
On the approval of the SMARTT proposal, the Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs and Head of the CIVIS Project at NKUA, Professor Dimitris Karadimas, stated that: ‘Our Institution has been consistent in its efforts to actively participate in the creation and development of the CIVIS European University, as is evidenced by the EU’s approval of the proposal we submitted.
