Six faculty members and forty students from the Faculty of Canon Law of the Catholic University of Paris, together with the Dean, Professor Ludovic Danto, paid an educational visit to important centres of the Orthodox Church, namely Constantinople (29 March-1 June) and Athens (1-6 June) in response to the recently declared intention of the Roman Catholic Church to adopt Synodality in its Institutions and everyday life. For this reason, they requested to attend special lectures on Synodality at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, particularly at the School of Theology and the School of Law.
Upon arrival at the Propylaea building of NKUA, they received a warm welcome from the Rector of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Professor Meletios-Athanasios C Dimopoulos. The Rector addressed them directly in their language, gave them a history and organizational overview of the University, responded to their questions, and offered them beverages and sweets in an all-encompassing atmosphere of hospitality. Finally, he wished them a pleasant stay in Athens and spoke of his joy at their choice to attend lectures on Synodality and Church-State relations at the NKUA’s Schools of Theology and Law. The French academics and students also visited the Archbishop and the Holy Diocese of Peristerion, whose Metropolitan is a Professor at NKUA and the one who coordinated the French delegation’s journey to Greece.
