On Thursday, 2 November 2023, a large delegation of 58 representatives from 33 top Chinese Universities (Rectors, Vice-Rectors, Deans, Chairs, and Vice-Chairs) and the Chinese Ministry of Education visited the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens within the context of the 2nd Sino-Hellenic Higher Education Forum. Leading the delegation was the Deputy Secretary General of the China Education Association for International Exchange, Ms Fu Bo.
On the morning of that day, at the main building of NKUA, members of the Chinese delegation had a working meeting with the Rector of NKUA, Professor Gerasimos Siasos, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, International Relations, and Extroversion, Professor Sophia Papaioannou, the Director of the ‘BA Program in the Archaeology, History, and Literature of Ancient Greece’ (School of Philosophy, NKUA)—Greece’s first-ever English-taught Undergraduate Programme—, Professor Emeritus Ms Eleni Karamalengou, and the Head of the Department of European and International Relations, Ms Fotini Fryda. Throughout the meeting, the members of the Chinese delegation expressed the keen interest of top Chinese Universities in establishing relationships at the master’s and doctoral levels.
The Chinese delegation included the following members:
–Fu Bo, Deputy Secretary General of the China Education Association for International Exchange,
–Liu Yibo, Director of the Department for International Cooperation,
–Luo Guangchun, Vice-President of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China,
–Zeng Qigang, Deputy Dean of the School of International Education,
–Gou Xiaohua, Vice-President at Lanzhou University, and
–Li Chunlin, Deputy Dean of the School of International Cultural Exchange.
Later on in the day, the Chinese delegation went to the Museum of Archaeology and the History of Art at the NKUA’s School of Philosophy to take part in a special session arranged by NKUA. Throughout the session the Chinese delegation of Rectors, Vice-Rectors, Deans, Chairs, and Vice-Chairs got an overview of the NKUA’s programmes of study taught in languages other than Greek by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, International Relations, and Extroversion, Professor Sophia Papaioannou, and the Directors of the Programmes. The delegation also enjoyed a guided tour of the Library of the NKUA’s School of Philosophy.
The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens attaches particular importance to international cooperation agreements and especially to the strengthening of bilateral relations with Chinese Universities.
