A visit to NKUA by a delegation from Nanyang Normal University

On Tuesday 10 September 2024, a delegation from Nanyang Normal University visited NKUA to explore opportunities for collaboration between the two Universities. Present at the meeting, on the part of Nanyang Normal University, were the Chair of the University Council, Professor Zhang Baofeng, the Dean of the School of Literature and History, Professor Gong Shixue, the Vice-Dean of the School of Arts and Design, Professor Zhou Ziqiang, the Director of the University Council Office, Professor Wang Chunyang, and the Director of the International Office, Professor Cao Luman, and, on the part of NKUA, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, International Relations, and Extroversion, Professor Sophia Papaioannou, the Dean of the School of Philosophy, Professor Dimitris Drosos,and the Head of the Directorate of Public Relations and History, Ms Sotiria-Alexandra Sakellariou.

Nanyang Normal University expressed a desire for collaboration in the fields of Philosophy, Philology, and History, with the first step being to organize joint summer schools. All participants in the meeting agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding, which initiated the appropriate procedure.

University of Athens

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, which was inaugurated on May 3, 1837, was initially housed in a renovated Ottoman building on the northeastern side of the Acropolis. This building has since been restored and now functions as the University Museum. Originally named the "Othonian University," after Otto, the first king of Greece, it consisted of four academic departments and 52 students. As the first university of the newly established Greek state, as well as of the broader Balkan and Mediterranean region, it assumed an important socio-historical role, which was pivotal in the development of specific forms of knowledge and culture within the country.
