On the morning of Thursday, 29 May 2025, as part of the TEFAA 3X3 2025 Basketball Tournament, the School of Physical Education and Sport Science held the official opening ceremony for its recently renovated outdoor courts at the University of Athens’ Dafni campus.
In attendance at the event were the Rector of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Professor Gerasimos Siasos; the Chair of the Committee on Sport and Physical Activity and Member of the University’s Administration Council, Professor Athanasia Smirniotou; the Vice-Rector for Administrative Affairs, Student Welfare, and Lifelong Learning, Professor Christos Karagiannis; the Dean of the School of Physical Education and Sport Science, Professor Gerasimos Terzis; numerous faculty members and students of the School of Physical Education and Sport Science; and veteran international basketball player and graduate of the School, Panagiotis Giannakis.
Marked by a warm atmosphere and strong participation from the University community, the opening ceremony not only highlighted the importance of upgrading sports facilities as a key part of University life, but also set the tone for a brief follow-up meeting between the School’s faculty and the University’s senior leadership at the small lecture theatre, where both sides shared ideas for future actions.
The renovation of the outdoor courts constitutes a significant step towards strengthening the School’s educational, athletic, and social life.
