Conclusion of ASCOLA Conference 2023 in Athens

We are delighted to inform you that the ASCOLA Conference 2023 has successfully concluded its works at the premises of our University located in the city of Athens! The Conference was jointly organized by the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Hellenic Competition Commission.

Under the attentive guidance of Alexandra Mikroulea and Manos Mastromanolis, both professors of the University of Athens Law School known for their Competition Law work, and with  the invaluable co-operation of the Hellenic Competition Commission, its Chairman Lianos, Professor at University College London, and his exceptional team, this Conference marked a significant milestone of academic activity  in the area of Competition law.  The Conference’s Advisory Board was comprised by Faculty members of the Law School, including Professors  Tzouganatos, Soufleros, Athanasiou, and Kinini, who also chaired the Conference sessions, as well as members of the HCC Board.  

Spanning over three intense days, the Conference provided a comprehensive forum of discussion on Competition Law for both scholars from renown universities across the globe and practitioners alike.

With an impressive turnout of over 230 distinguished participants, this year’s event was in the series of ASCOLA Conference recognized as premier events in the field. The program featured two plenary sessions and one TED talk session as well as 38 thought-provoking panels, each delving into specific aspects s of Competition law. We were honored to   have hosted esteemed guests such as Professor Hovenkamp of Penn Carey Law School, Mr. Guersent of the EU Commission, and Professor Valetti of Imperial College, distinguished legal scholars and officials whose profound insights and expertise enriched the discussions and contributed to the Conference’s overall success. We are also pleased to announce that ASCOLA’s annual General Assembly has elected Rupprecht Podszun ASCOLA’s new President. We extend our warm congratulations to Mr. Podszun on this appointment and wish him every success in his office. We finally extend our appreciation to all the participants, organizers and speakers, whose commitment and dedication undoubtedly contributed to the success of ASCOLA Conference 2023.

University of Athens

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, which was inaugurated on May 3, 1837, was initially housed in a renovated Ottoman building on the northeastern side of the Acropolis. This building has since been restored and now functions as the University Museum. Originally named the "Othonian University," after Otto, the first king of Greece, it consisted of four academic departments and 52 students. As the first university of the newly established Greek state, as well as of the broader Balkan and Mediterranean region, it assumed an important socio-historical role, which was pivotal in the development of specific forms of knowledge and culture within the country.
