The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Municipality of Athens, within the framework of the educational, cultural, and artistic initiatives NKUA in the City (coordinated by Achilleas Chaldaeakes), under the thematic unit “Poetry: The Negative of Silence” (coordinated by Tzina Kalogirou), are co-organizing an event titled: “Echoes of Her: Resonances of the Female Voice – From Silence to Expression.”

The event will honor the distinguished academic, singer, and poet from Montenegro, Svetlana Kalezić-Radonjić, who was born in 1980 in Podgorica, Montenegro. She holds a PhD in Literature and has been actively publishing her work since the age of fifteen. She is an Assistant Professor of Children’s and Young Adult Literature at the University of Montenegro. She has published seven individual poetry collections and has been honored with numerous literary awards. She is the author of over a hundred articles and studies, as well as the monograph Oblak nad Kamenim vratima: Umjetnost riječi Ivane Brlić-Mažuranić. Beyond poetry, prose, and literary criticism, she is also active in rock music performance and is the founder of the Institute of Children’s and Young Adult Literature (Podgorica, 2014).

Program of the event:

  • Soundscape
  • Screening of the documentary “Burrnesha: The Sworn Virgins of the Balkans – Silence as Survival”
  • Dance performance and video screening by the Eugène Delacroix Franco-Hellenic School
  • Keynote speech by Svetlana Kalezić-Radonjić
  • Poetic dialogue among six women – Svetlana Kalezić-Radonjić, Voula Chourdaki, Natassa Chalkia,, Areti Douka, Peny Delta and Nefeli Gatsou (in order of appearance)
  • Musical performance by Svetlana Kalezić-Radonjić and Martha Frintzila, accompanied by pianist Takis Farazis
  • Presentation of a commemorative plaque by the Mayor of Athens, Mr. Haris Doukas, to our honored guests, Svetlana Kalezić-Radonjić and Martha Frintzila

University of Athens

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, which was inaugurated on May 3, 1837, was initially housed in a renovated Ottoman building on the northeastern side of the Acropolis. This building has since been restored and now functions as the University Museum. Originally named the "Othonian University," after Otto, the first king of Greece, it consisted of four academic departments and 52 students. As the first university of the newly established Greek state, as well as of the broader Balkan and Mediterranean region, it assumed an important socio-historical role, which was pivotal in the development of specific forms of knowledge and culture within the country.
