Following Apostle Paul: Artificial Intelligence brings to life the journeys of the Apostle of the Nations

A new interdisciplinary team has been put together at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, led by Professor Sotirios Despotis of the Department of Social Theology and Religious Studies. Named ‘Following Apostle Paul’, the team consists of Iphigeneia Kapsomenaki, Research and Development Engineer; Eleftherios Betsis, Visual Artist; and Konstantinos Dimou, Web Designer. By making the most of emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, the team brings to life, for the first time, the remarkable story of Paul the Apostle, highlighting the historical, spiritual, and cultural legacy of the Apostle of the Nations in both Greece and Europe and underscoring the lasting relevance of his journeys for today’s world and the human search for meaning.

On May 17 and 18, 2025, the team presented, for the first time, the inaugural video of Paul the Apostle’s journeys across ancient Greece within the archaeological site of Ancient Corinth. Organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Corinth and the Network of Paul’s Cities, the event took place against the striking backdrop of the iconic temple of Apollo.

The event marked the first step in our project and set the stage for upcoming stops and other activities throughout Greece. We, as a team, aim to bring attention to the eternal message of the Apostle of the Nations in particular and the Christian faith in general. University of Athens

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, which was inaugurated on May 3, 1837, was initially housed in a renovated Ottoman building on the northeastern side of the Acropolis. This building has since been restored and now functions as the University Museum. Originally named the "Othonian University," after Otto, the first king of Greece, it consisted of four academic departments and 52 students. As the first university of the newly established Greek state, as well as of the broader Balkan and Mediterranean region, it assumed an important socio-historical role, which was pivotal in the development of specific forms of knowledge and culture within the country.
