Following the recent cabinet reshuffle, a closer look at the CVs of the new cabinet members reveals that nearly half studied at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, with two of them currently serving as faculty at the Institution.
Overall, 29 out of the 61 cabinet members went to NKUA. More specifically, the Deputy Prime Minister, 14 Ministers, 3 Alternate Ministers, and 11 Deputy Ministers are graduates of the University of Athens.
This finding confirms the well-established belief that the University of Athens is not only the oldest and largest University in the country but also a key provider of scientific talent to the Greek State, with the Cabinet serving as a prime example.
Even for the highest state office in Greece, the Presidence of the Republic, an upcoming article in the next issue of ‘The University of Athens’ newspaper (to be distributed with the Greek Sunday newspaper ‘To Vima tis Kyriakis’ on 30 March 2025) highlights that every President of the Third Hellenic Republic (with just one exception) accomplished studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
The table below gives details about the new cabinet members who are graduates or academics at the University of Athens.
