Important international distinctions for Dr of the Chemistry Department of NKUA N. Tzouras

On December 1st 2023, during the 2023 Merck Organic Chemistry Symposium in Blankenberge, Belgium, Dr Nikolaos V. Tzouras gave the closing scientific talk as part of the ceremony for receiving the prestigious Incentive Award by C.G.B.-C.B.B., the Royal Chemical Society of Belgium and Chemistry Europe. The Incentive Award is the highest award in Belgium for young researchers, and is given annually to two exceptional researchers under 35 years of age, who are typically at an advanced post-doctoral stage of their career. Moreover, in late January 2024, Dr Nikolaos V. Tzouras was announced as the winner of the 2023 Best PhD Thesis Award by Molecules, an international scientific journal of the Swiss publishing house MDPI.

These highly competitive awards at an international level were awarded to Dr Tzouras for his contributions to N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) chemistry, organometallic synthesis and catalysis, gold chemistry/catalysis and organic synthesis, which were achieved during his PhD.

Dr Tzouras is a recent alumnus of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and of Ghent University. He completed a Joint PhD, awarded by both universities, in June 2023. At the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Dr Tzouras worked in the Laboratory of Organic Chemistry under the supervision of Associate Professor Georgios C. Vougioukalakis http://users.uoa.gr/~vougiouk/.
