Professor of Classical Archaeology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Dimitris Plantzos, has been selected as a speaker for the Charles Eliot Norton Memorial Lectureship series of the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) for the 2024–2025 academic year. This honour represents one of the highest distinctions awarded by the Institute to distinguished archaeologists and scholars worldwide.

During his lecture tour in the United States, Professor Plantzos delivered a series of talks in various cities. On 17 March 2025, he gave a lecture titled “Dying as a Macedonian in Egypt: Styling Social Identity through Hellenistic Burial Practices” at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University—a talk he repeated in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Charlottesville, Virginia. On 25 March 2025, he presented the lecture “Out from Shadows: Painting the Human Face in Classical Greece” at the Penn Museum in Philadelphia. The following day, 26 March 2025, he delivered “Eldorado on the Nile: The Art of Luxury in Ptolemaic Alexandria” at the University of Maryland (College Park).

At these institutions, Professor Plantzos also engaged in discussions with student and faculty groups and offered additional seminars and lectures.

His participation in the Charles Eliot Norton Memorial Lectureship Program highlights the international recognition of his work and contributes significantly to the global promotion of Greek archaeological research and the scholarly output of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
