Decoration of NKUA Professor Dimitris N. Chryssochoou with the Medal of Outstanding Contribution of the Republic of Cyprus

Dimitris N. Chryssochoou, Professor of Theory and Institutions of European Integration in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, was honoured in February 2023 with the Medal of Outstanding Contribution of the Republic of Cyprus. The honoree states: “I address my most heartfelt thanks to H.E. the President of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Nikolaos Anastasiades for this highest honour. My personal bond with Cyprus and the fraternal Cypriot People is indissoluble and I remain committed to their struggle for Justice and Freedom. A People whom I admire for their resilience, values ​​and culture”.

Biographical note

Dimitris N. Chryssochoou is Professor of Theory and Institutions of European Integration in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He has been Professor at Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, Associate Professor at the University of Crete, Reader, Honorary University Fellow and Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the University of Exeter, and has held visiting posts at the Universities of Cambridge, Oxford, LSE, Columbia, Virginia Tech, CHRIST (Deemed to be University, India), Geneva, Oslo, Jyväskylä, Catania, Malta, Neapolis Pafou, Nicosia, European University Cyprus, Crete, the Aegean, and the Peloponnese, at the Centre for European Constitutional Law in Athens, the Hellenic Centre for European Studies and the Norwegian Institute at Athens. In January 1998, his doctoral Thesis ‘From Democracies to Democracy: The Case of the European Community’ was honoured with the 1997 European Studies Award by the Hellenic University Association for European Studies. In February 2021, his book Politeiologia of unions (in Greek, I. Sideris Publications, 2020) has been awarded an Honorary Distinction for Original Planning and Exemplary Writing by the Hellenic Political Science Association. On 30 January 2022, Feast Day of the Three Hierarchs, he was ordained Archon Referendarios of the Holy and Great Church of Christ by His All-Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew at the Holy Patriarchate Church of Saint George at the Phanar. In May 2022, he was honoured with the Medal of the Municipality of Hydra for the 200 Years from the Greek Revolution and on 30 November of the same year, with the Medal of Honour of the Municipality of Nafplion for the 200 Years from the Liberation of Nafplion. In February 2023 he was honoured with the Medal of Outstanding Contribution of the Republic of Cyprus.
