On Tuesday, 3 June 2025, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, International Relations, and Extroversion, Professor Sophia Papaioannou, welcomed the visit of the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Ms Lina Annab, to the main administrative building of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). Accompanying Ms Annab were Ms Maryam Ibrahim from the Jordanian Department of Antiquities and Mr Adey El Taweel from the Ministry of Tourism.
The Vice-Rector provided the delegation with an outline of the University of Athens’ history, identity, and global orientation. She also discussed the diverse disciplines it offers, its international collaborations, and global rankings, emphasizing its parallel course with that of the modern Greek state—a relationship reflected in the portraits displayed on the walls of our University’s main administrative building. The Minister, for her part, expressed her great appreciation for our country and culture, as well as for our University’s global standing and international prominence, and conveyed her strong desire to see the University of Athens collaborate with Higher Educational Institutions in Jordan. To this end, she requested information on how the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens enters into international bilateral agreements.
At the meeting, much of the discussion focused on the upcoming 16th International Conference on the History and Archaeology of Jordan (ICHAJ 16), which the University of Athens will host and co-chair from 22 to 26 September 2025. Both sides expressed their satisfaction with the progress of preparations and agreed to stay in close contact as the event approaches.
