We are delighted to announce that the team from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens School of Law has successfully advanced to the Final Oral Round of the 13th Helga Pedersen Moot Court Competition.

Continuing the distinguished tradition of the Law School of Athens, the team is among the 18 finalist teams, advancing from approximately 60 participating teams. The team consists of undergraduate students Nikolaos Kyrillidis, Andriana Handanou, Iason-Homeros Christidis, and Kyriaki Chronaki. They were coached by Eirini Vyzirgiannaki, trainee lawyer, and Katia Rippi, LLM candidate, both former participants in the competition under the academic supervision of Professor Maria Gavouneli.

The Helga Pedersen Moot Court Competition on human rights, organized by the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) in cooperation with the Council of Europe, simulates proceedings before the European Court of Human Rights, offering law students from across Europe the opportunity to engage with the European Convention on Human Rights. This year’s case explores key legal issues concerning personal autonomy and property rights within the Convention framework.

The team prepared written submissions for both the applicant and the respondent state and demonstrated outstanding advocacy skills during their oral pleadings at the Vilnius Regional Round in February 2025. The Final Oral Round is set to take place in May 2025 in Strasbourg, hosted at the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights.

We wholeheartedly congratulate the team on this remarkable achievement and wish them the very best of luck in the Final Oral Round!
