Professor Dina Tiniakos, Professor of Pathology and Director, Department of Pathology, Aretaieion Hospital, Medical School, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens was appointed as Chair of the Advisory Board, European Society of Pathology (ESP) following the unanimous decision of the General Assembly held on 13/09/2023 during the 35th European Congress of Pathology, Dublin, Ireland. The ESP is the leading force in European pathology with more than 5000 members. The ESP Advisory Board consists of the Presidents of the 29 National Societies of Pathology represented at the ESP (https://www.esp-pathology.org/about-esp/structure-governance/advisory-board.html), provides advice to the Council and to ESP President, and organises scientific sessions for the annual European Congress of Pathology. The tenure of Prof. Tiniakos is three years.

University of Athens

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, which was inaugurated on May 3, 1837, was initially housed in a renovated Ottoman building on the northeastern side of the Acropolis. This building has since been restored and now functions as the University Museum. Originally named the "Othonian University," after Otto, the first king of Greece, it consisted of four academic departments and 52 students. As the first university of the newly established Greek state, as well as of the broader Balkan and Mediterranean region, it assumed an important socio-historical role, which was pivotal in the development of specific forms of knowledge and culture within the country.
