The Department of Mathematics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) participated with a four-member team in the 31st International Mathematics Competition (IMC) for University Students, which took place from 7 to 8 August 2024 in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria. Our students competed against 77 teams, totalling 401 participants across 42 countries.
Our team’s performance was as follows:
Georgios Georgeles: First Prize.
Dimitrios Emmanouil: First Prize.
Emmanouil Petrakis: First Prize.
Themelis Mamouzelos: Second Prize.
IMC is an individual competition. In the Teams’ Unofficial Results, however, our Department of Mathematics placed 6th out of 77, in what was indeed the best performance ever achieved by an NKUA Department of Mathematics team in IMC.
IMC is the world’s biggest Mathematics competition for undergraduate students. UCL has been organizing it since 1994, involving leading Universities from Europe, Asia, and Latin America. On each of the two days of IMC, participants compete in 5 problems for 5 hours.
The NKUA’s Department of Mathematics has been participating in IMC since 2007-2008 and has had a long record of success, which testifies to our University’s academic level as well as the quality of its student body.
