The Society for Environmental Geochemistry and Health (www.segh.net) and the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens invite you in Europe and the 38th International Conference on Geochemistry and Health, 2-6 July 2023.
The Society for Environmental Geochemistry and Health (SEGH) was established in 1971 to provide a forum for scientists to work together in understanding the interaction between the geochemical environment and the health of plants, animals, and humans. The Society members represent expertise in a diverse range of scientific fields, such as biology, engineering, geology, hydrology, epidemiology, chemistry, medicine, nutrition, and toxicology. The Official Journal of the Society for Environmental Geochemistry and Health, Environmental Geochemistry and Health (Impact factor: 4.898 (2021)) is published by Springer.
The annual SEGH international conferences offer the opportunity for experienced and more junior researchers and students to promote their own work and interact in person with peers and knowledgeable colleagues. This year, the conference will focus on the themes:
- Emerging contaminants and human health in land, water and air
- Innovative data collection methods for studying environmental change
- Environmental geochemistry in the energy transition era
- Global databases for geochemistry and beyond
Abstracts covering wider areas of research on geochemistry and health are also welcome, especially by Early Career Researchers. SEGH offers awards to ECRs each year during the annual SEGH Conference. These include the awards for the best Oral and Poster presentation with a monetary prize awarded by Spinger.
A selection of two pre-conference workshops, free with conference registration, is also included. The first one in applied geochemical methods that are described in the International Union of Geological Sciences Manual of Standard Methods for Establishing the Global Geochemical Reference Network will be organised on Saturday, 1st of July, and Sunday, 2nd of July 2023. The course is sponsored by the International Union of Geological Sciences. The second, in Nanomaterials and the Geoenvironment is kindly supported by the HORIZON EUROPE funded project nexus monARC and organized on 2nd July 2023.
Athens, a metropolis of Southeast Europe provides excellent opportunities to explore history, culture and a beautiful Mediterranean environment. The rich social program of the conference will make the most out of the Athens surroundings, highlighting the geosites of the Acropolis of the ancient city as well as the Athens riviera.
Abstract submission is open until 20 March 2023. For further information, abstract submission and registration please visit the official conference website at: www.segh2023.org. You can watch the conference welcome video at: https://youtu.be/rax8rfHT5y8
