6th Kapodistrian Run and 1st Attica Universities Student Run [4 May 2025]

The Rector of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Professor Gerasimos Siasos, the Dean of the School of Physical Education and Sport Science, Professor Gerasimos Terzis, and the Chair of the NKUA’s Committee on Sport and Physical Activity, Professor Athanasia Smirniotou, cordially invite you to the

6th Kapodistrian Run

and the

1st Attica Universities Student Run

organized by the University of Athens in collaboration with the Company for the Development and Management of the Property of the University of Athens and the MSc Global Health – Disaster Medicine of the NKUA’s School of Medicine.

The races will take place on Sunday 4 May 2025 at the Zografou University Campus (accessed through the gate on Olof Palme St).

1st Attica Universities Student Run – 4,000 m road race. Start time: 10:00 a.m.

6th Kapodistrian Run 2025 – 4,000 m walking route. Start time: 10:05 a.m.

6th Kapodistrian Run 2025 – 10,000 m road race. Start time 11:00 a.m.

The Kapodistrian Run began in the context of our University’s 180th anniversary and has since grown into a successful yearly sporting event held at the Zografou Campus. This Run aims to promote, among other things, health through exercise and is open to students and citizens of all ages and genders as long as they have an interest in physical recreational activities. The 2025 event has been improved with a new track and the additional 1st Attica Universities Student Run.

University of Athens

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, which was inaugurated on May 3, 1837, was initially housed in a renovated Ottoman building on the northeastern side of the Acropolis. This building has since been restored and now functions as the University Museum. Originally named the "Othonian University," after Otto, the first king of Greece, it consisted of four academic departments and 52 students. As the first university of the newly established Greek state, as well as of the broader Balkan and Mediterranean region, it assumed an important socio-historical role, which was pivotal in the development of specific forms of knowledge and culture within the country.
