On Monday, August 25, 2025, Haris Pamboukis, Professor of Private International Law and Law of International Transactions at the University of Athens, was elected to the Institute of International Law in the first round of voting.
The Institute of International Law is the world’s leading body for the advancement of the field, bringing together the most prominent legal scholars from around the globe. Professor Pamboukis’s election represents both a significant personal achievement and a notable honour for Greece.
About Haris Pamboukis
In addition to his academic position at the University of Athens’ School of Law, Professor Pamboukis served as Minister of State and, for a brief period, as Alternate Minister of Development in the government of George Papandreou (2009-2011).
He is the author of many articles in Greek, English, and French, and has published numerous legal monographs and political essays.
The Institute of International Law
In 1904, the Institute of International Law was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of its work in promoting arbitration among States—a peaceful means of settling international disputes. The Institute comprises honorary members, members, and associates.
