Participation of the Department of Social Theology and the Study of Religion of NKUA in the 8th International Conference for the promotion of Educational Innovation

In Larissa, the work of the 8th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE FOR THE PROMOTION OF EDUCATIONAL INNOVATION, organized by the Scientific Union for the Promotion of Educational Innovation (E.E.P.E.K. – www.eepek.gr) in collaboration with the University of Thessaly, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Department of Social Theology and the Study of Religion and the Laboratory of Pedagogical Research and Applications, Educational Technology and Production of Educational Materials for Religious Education), the University of Macedonia, the University of Peloponnese, the Hellenic Mediterranean University and the Association of English Language Teachers and of Philology of Larissa, were successfully completed for the 8th year in a row. The Conference was held – online and in person – in Larissa, during October 14-16, 2022 with the support of the US Embassy in Greece, the French Institute of Larissa – French Embassy in Greece, the Union of Greek Physicists, the Panhellenic Association of Graduate Engineers in Geoinformatics and Topography, the Panhellenic Association of Graduates in Physical Education of Larissa and the Regional Directorate of Primary and Secondary Education of Thessaly, while it was co-organized by the Region of Thessaly and the Municipality of Larissa.

During the work of the Conference, which was hosted by the Department of Digital Systems of the University of Thessaly, a total of 510 papers were presented (130 live and 380 remotely), full papers, e-posters, educational scenarios, innovative programs, etc., as well as more than 40 invited speeches by recognized Scientists & Academics from European and American University institutions, who graced the Conference with their presence. At the same time, the delegates had the opportunity to participate in any of the 5 Round Tables in extremely interesting topics, which were developed by distinguished scientists – Local Government Executives – Academics – Educators and other executives distinguished at the educational and social level. Finally, the delegates were given the opportunity to attend one or more of the 13 experiential workshops that were implemented online in real time.

More than 900 people (distinguished scientists, highly qualified teachers, volunteers, etc.) participated in conference’s committees (Scientific Committee, Organizing Committee and Jury Committee). All invited speeches, as well as the round tables, are posted daily on the EEPEK YouTube channel: (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrMC8c9kwBJ3WcE35YNzyQA) in order to be available to teachers who could not attend the proceedings of the Conferenc. So far, the EEPEK YOUTUBE channel has had more than 13,000 views, of which approximately 5,000 views are related to the live stream of the broadcasts, while it has more than 4,600 unique viewers and it is estimated (according to last year’s data) that up to February, when the videos will be offline, there will be more than 50,000 views in total.

The highest honor for the entire Educational Community was the profound Guest Speech of His Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, who delivered his Guest Speech on the subject: “The Humanistic Orientation of Education”, during the 1st day of the 8th International Conference on Promotion of Educational Innovation.

University of Athens

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, which was inaugurated on May 3, 1837, was initially housed in a renovated Ottoman building on the northeastern side of the Acropolis. This building has since been restored and now functions as the University Museum. Originally named the "Othonian University," after Otto, the first king of Greece, it consisted of four academic departments and 52 students. As the first university of the newly established Greek state, as well as of the broader Balkan and Mediterranean region, it assumed an important socio-historical role, which was pivotal in the development of specific forms of knowledge and culture within the country.
