Run with the University of Athens! Join the 5km Universities Night Run. Registration closes on 5 September 2025

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens warmly invites all members of its academic community to participate in the 2025 Universities Night Run, a 5km race held as part of Athens Marathon, the Authentic.

Whether you are an undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD candidate, Erasmus student, faculty member, special teaching staff, laboratory teaching staff, special technical laboratory staff, or part of the University’s administrative or technical team, this is your chance to join the run!

Date: Saturday 8 November 2025

Time: 19:15

Starting Point: Vasilissis Amalias Ave., between Souri and Xenofontos Streets, near the Bodossaki Foundation building (towards Syntagma Square, [map])

The University will cover participation fees for the first 80 students and 20 staff members who register, on a first come, first served basis.

Sign up between 1 September 2025 at 10 a.m. and 5 September 2025 at 12:00 noon, or until the registration limit of 80 students and 20 staff members is reached, by visiting https://gymsports.uoa.gr/diorganoseis/marathonios_athinas.

University of Athens

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, which was inaugurated on May 3, 1837, was initially housed in a renovated Ottoman building on the northeastern side of the Acropolis. This building has since been restored and now functions as the University Museum. Originally named the "Othonian University," after Otto, the first king of Greece, it consisted of four academic departments and 52 students. As the first university of the newly established Greek state, as well as of the broader Balkan and Mediterranean region, it assumed an important socio-historical role, which was pivotal in the development of specific forms of knowledge and culture within the country.
