The Global Environment Outlook (GEO) is often referred to as United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) flagship environmental assessment. The first publication in 1997 was originally requested by Member States. It is a flagship report because it fulfils the core functions of the organization, which date back to the UN General Assembly resolution that established UNEP in 1972. GEO-7 will assess the state and trends on the global environment, the implications for human well-being and the achievement of the SDGs, as well as provide an outlook that provides useful guidance on the possible environmental and socio-economic implications of the transformational changes needed.

The GEO-7 process involves a world-wide network of authors, fellows, and partners. A transparent nomination process that allows governments and other stakeholders to nominate experts to the process; advisory groups to provide guidance on scientific and policy issues and a comprehensive peer review processes are some of the integral elements of GEO-7. GEO is a consultative and participatory process to prepare an independent assessment of the state of the environment, the effectiveness of the policy response to address these environmental challenges, and possible pathways to achieve various internationally agreed environmental goals. University of Athens

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, which was inaugurated on May 3, 1837, was initially housed in a renovated Ottoman building on the northeastern side of the Acropolis. This building has since been restored and now functions as the University Museum. Originally named the "Othonian University," after Otto, the first king of Greece, it consisted of four academic departments and 52 students. As the first university of the newly established Greek state, as well as of the broader Balkan and Mediterranean region, it assumed an important socio-historical role, which was pivotal in the development of specific forms of knowledge and culture within the country.
