The Curatorium of the Hague Academy of International Law, meeting in plenary session in Istanbul on 23–24 May 2026, elected Professor Linos-Alexander Sicilianos as its new President.
Professor Sicilianos, of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and former Dean of its School of Law, is a leading scholar in his field. He previously served as President of the European Court of Human Rights and currently chairs the Hellenic Society of International Law and International Relations.
Based at the Peace Palace alongside the International Court of Justice, the Hague Academy of International Law is one of the world’s leading centres for teaching, research and academic exchange. Founded in 1923, it is globally recognised for its contribution to the study and advancement of international law.
The School of Law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens warmly congratulates Professor Sicilianos on his election, describing it as a significant honour and a reflection of the School’s international reputation and long-standing academic excellence.
