University of Athens School of Medicine awarded for bringing brilliant scientists back home

Professor Nikolaos Arkadopoulos, Chair of the NKUA’s School of Medicine, received the honorary title of ‘Employer Ambassador for Greek Doctors Abroad 2024’ on behalf of his School on May 6, 2025, during the BrainReGain Annual Conference at Megaron, the Athens Concert Hall.

The award came in recognition of the School’s faith in Greece’s human capital and its dynamic contribution to the repatriation of Greek doctors living abroad.

It is important to note that the NKUA’s School of Medicine was the only public entity to get an award for its efforts to bring brilliant scientists back home throughout 2024.

This was made possible because of the allocation of numerous faculty positions to the NKUA’s School of Medicine by the Hellenic Ministries of Health and Education.

Thanks to these positions—and following a rigorous selection process among hundreds of candidates—over 20 brilliant Greek scientists were repatriated, all of whom held prominent posts at major academic institutions in Europe and the United States of America.

With 187 years of history and contributions to health and education, the School of Medicine of the University of Athens, true to its principles of excellence and meritocracy, continues to attract not only outstanding students but also leading scientists from around the world.
