Athina Ioanni Martinou Chair at the University of Athens Invites Doctoral Candidates to Pursue Research in Cardiovascular Medicine

The Athina Ioanni Martinou Chair for Teaching and Research, based at the School of Medicine of the University of Athens, within the 3rd Department of Cardiology and its Cardiovascular Haemodynamic Laboratory, invites doctoral candidates to express their interest in undertaking research in cardiovascular medicine.

Doctoral candidates are funded through a donation supporting the chair (EUR 1,500 per month for full-time engagement for one year, with the possibility of renewal). Interested applicants are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to cardiovascular research and active involvement in all associated educational activities.

The Athina Ioanni Martinou Chair aims to promote research, education, and innovation in cardiovascular care. Within this framework, participants will have the opportunity to join cutting-edge, high-level research projects carried out at the 3rd Department of Cardiology (‘Sotiria’ Athens General Hospital of Thoracic Diseases)

Research fields include:

• Coronary heart disease
• Atherosclerosis
• Heart failure
• Cardiomyopathies
• Cardiac arrhythmias
• Innovative diagnostic and therapeutic approaches
• Artificial intelligence in cardiovascular medicine

University of Athens

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, which was inaugurated on May 3, 1837, was initially housed in a renovated Ottoman building on the northeastern side of the Acropolis. This building has since been restored and now functions as the University Museum. Originally named the "Othonian University," after Otto, the first king of Greece, it consisted of four academic departments and 52 students. As the first university of the newly established Greek state, as well as of the broader Balkan and Mediterranean region, it assumed an important socio-historical role, which was pivotal in the development of specific forms of knowledge and culture within the country.
