The School of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), together with its Cyprus Branch, is partnering with the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office in Cyprus to strengthen health emergency preparedness and response across the WHO European Region.
The initiative is anchored in the MSc in Global Health – Disaster Medicine, a postgraduate programme headed by Professor of Surgery Emmanouil Pikoulis, and the Research Institute of Humanitarian Medicine and Disaster Management at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
As part of this collaboration, the University’s Cyprus Branch will coordinate a series of activities, including:
-Designing and delivering specialised field training programmes in Greek
-Conducting simulation exercises to enhance preparedness and emergency response
-Providing scientific and technical expertise to assess population health needs
At the same time, collaboration with WHO experts will support the development of the National Health Needs Assessment Strategy, ensuring alignment with international standards and WHO technical guidelines.
