School of Economics and Political Science at the University of Athens Cyprus Branch Signs Memorandum of Understanding with K Treppides & Co Group, One of Cyprus’s Leading Professional Services Organisations

The School of Economics and Political Science of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) Cyprus Branch has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with K Treppides & Co Group, the largest independent consulting firm in Cyprus, which has a strong international presence through its offices in Cyprus, the UK, and Malta. Initiated by Professor Nikolaos Eriotis, Dean of the School of Economics and Political Science, Professor Georgios Dotsis, Chair of the Department of Economics, and Professor Dimitrios Thomakos, Chair of the Department of Business Administration, the MoU aims to strengthen links between universities and employers in Cyprus, fostering closer collaboration between academia and industry.

The partnership will primarily focus on students of the NKUA Cyprus Branch. It will provide opportunities for internships and practical professional experience in an international and highly competitive environment. Under the terms of the agreement, K Treppides & Co Group will employ at least 30 students – more than one third of the anticipated student population of the School’s Economics and Business Administration programmes at the Cyprus Branch – and will cover 50 per cent of their annual tuition fees. The initiative is designed to support students’ access to higher education while enhancing their career prospects upon graduation.

Through the partnership, K Treppides & Co Group will actively support students’ employment prospects and professional development, providing exposure to contemporary practices in finance, audit, and advisory services.

The School of Economics and Political Science will provide guidance and support the selection process for participating students, helping to bridge academic study and professional practice.

The MoU was signed by Professor Nikolaos Eriotis, Dean of the School of Economics and Political Science; Professor Georgios Dotsis, Chair of the Department of Economics; Professor Dimitrios Thomakos, Chair of the Department of Business Administration; and Mr Marios Cosma, Managing Partner at K Treppides & Co Group.

Also in attendance at the signing ceremony was Professor Stelios Kotsios of the Department of Economics.

The agreement marks an important milestone in fostering closer cooperation between academia and industry, with particular emphasis on strengthening the School of Economics and Political Science at the NKUA Cyprus Branch and creating meaningful pathways to employment for its students.

University of Athens

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, which was inaugurated on May 3, 1837, was initially housed in a renovated Ottoman building on the northeastern side of the Acropolis. This building has since been restored and now functions as the University Museum. Originally named the "Othonian University," after Otto, the first king of Greece, it consisted of four academic departments and 52 students. As the first university of the newly established Greek state, as well as of the broader Balkan and Mediterranean region, it assumed an important socio-historical role, which was pivotal in the development of specific forms of knowledge and culture within the country.
