The Digital Storytelling Hub (DSTHub), part of the Laboratory of New Technologies in Communication, Education, and the Mass Media (NTLab) at the Department of Communication and Media Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, is celebrating 15 years of creative practice, research, and innovation in digital storytelling.
To mark the anniversary, DSTHub is holding a special event, ‘Weaving Moments’, on Saturday, 23 May 2026, from 11:00 to 14:00 at the Greek Film Archive. Looking back on 15 years of digital storytelling, the event will offer audiences the opportunity to meet creators and engage in a discussion with representatives from the arts and sciences.
Digital storytelling combines the art of telling stories with a mix of digital tools to create a short multimedia piece, shaped around the creator’s own voice.
In Greece, the digital storytelling methodology, as established in both research and practice by Emeritus Professor Michalis Meimaris of the University of Athens, places particular emphasis on the power of the story circle. This involves short-term, closed groups where participant dynamics foster the development of a range of skills. Active reflection, a defining feature of digital storytelling, serves as a vehicle for participants to develop self-understanding and self-care.
The creation of 2,000 digital stories, facilitated by researchers from DSTHub, has demonstrated the potential of this methodology to support population groups with specific characteristics, while giving voice to their members.
