The DIGITRANS Final Conference, held on 20–21 October 2026 in Chișinău, Moldova, and hosted by the Technical University of Moldova (UTM), brought together academic and industry partners from Latvia, Romania, Greece, Ukraine and Moldova to present the project’s achievements and discuss opportunities for future cooperation.
The DIGITRANS project (Digital Transformation of Higher Education Institutions’ Education Process in Ukraine and Moldova for Sustainable Engagement with Enterprises), implemented within the Erasmus+ framework, aims to modernize engineering education, strengthen digital teaching and learning capacities, and promote sustainable collaboration between universities and enterprises.
The Department of Digital Industry Technologies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) has played a central role in the project through NKUA’s leadership of Work Package 2 (WP2): Development of Practical and Student-Oriented Curricula and Innovative Teaching/Learning Methods.
Working closely with Ukrainian, Moldovan and European partner institutions, the Department contributed to coordinating efforts to modernize engineering education through competence-based curricula, innovative pedagogical approaches and the integration of digital learning environments.
The main achievements of WP2 include:
• 36 new or modernized courses developed across six partner universities in Ukraine and Moldova, addressing emerging educational and technological needs.
• Four digital textbooks, complemented by teaching materials, laboratory resources and digital tools supporting on-site, blended and remote learning.
• Support for programme accreditation and quality assurance, promoting alignment with national requirements and European educational standards.
• Two signed Double Diploma agreements, establishing new frameworks for academic cooperation and student mobility between European, Ukrainian and Moldovan universities.
• Collaborative workshops and curriculum development activities, facilitating knowledge exchange, peer review and the adoption of innovative teaching methodologies.
The Department of Digital Industry Technologies also contributed to the project’s broader capacity-building activities through the organization and hosting of training initiatives for academic staff and students at NKUA’s Evripos Campus in Psachna. These activities supported the practical application of digital teaching approaches and engineering tools, reinforcing the connection between curriculum modernization and hands-on learning.
At the Final Conference, partners presented the wider achievements of DIGITRANS, including nine new or modernized study programmes, four published e-books, six equipped physical laboratories, eleven virtual shared laboratories and two remote laboratories. The project also supported 153 student internships, strengthening links between higher education and industry.
Beyond presenting these achievements, the conference provided an opportunity to discuss the sustainability of the project’s educational resources, digital learning ecosystem and university–enterprise partnerships.
Through NKUA’s leadership of WP2, the Department of Digital Industry Technologies has contributed to building a foundation for more accessible, practical and digitally enhanced engineering education in Ukraine and Moldova, while strengthening long-term academic partnerships across Europe.
