The University of Athens extends its warmest congratulations to the Greek high school students who distinguished themselves at the 8th International Economics Olympiad (IEO), held from July 20 to 29, 2025. This year’s event was hosted by Azerbaijan and brought together participants from 50 countries.
Representing Greece were five students who qualified through the 6th Panhellenic Economics Competition for High School Students. This marks Greece’s seventh consecutive year participating in the IEO—and once again, the results were outstanding.
Three students earned bronze medals in the individual parts of the competition:
· Michail Tsoukis (Pagkrition Private School),
· Athanasios Karageorgos (8th General High School of Trikala), and
· Dimitris Georgoulas (1st General High School of Evosmos).
In the Business Case team competition, the Greek delegation achieved a strong 12th-place finish.
At the Department of Economics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, we are proud to have supported this initiative in close collaboration with the namesake Department of the University of Thessaly. Together, we co-organized the 6th Panhellenic Economics Competition for High School Students.
We would like to thank our faculty members—Professor Stelios Kotsios (Chair of the Department), Assistant Professor Frago Kourandi, and Assistant Professor Pantelis Kostis—for their invaluable role in preparing the students.
Most importantly, we wholeheartedly congratulate the participants on their remarkable achievements. Their dedication, hard work, and passion for learning are truly inspiring.
You’ve made us all proud!
