Dimitris N. Dimitris N. Chryssochoou is Professor of Theory and Institutions of European Integration in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He has been Professor at Panteion University, Associate Professor at the University of Crete, Reader at the University of Exeter, Visiting Professor at the University of Belgrade, the University of Catania and the Centre for Research on Democracy and Law of the University of Macedonia, and Visiting Research Professor at the Virginia Tech Center for European Union, Transatlantic and Trans-European Space Studies – A Jean Monnet Center of Excellence. He has also held visiting posts as a Fellow/Scholar/Researcher at the Universities of Cambridge, Oxford, LSE, Columbia, Geneva, Oslo, Jyväskylä, Malta, Nicosia, Neapolis University Pafos, European University Cyprus, CHRIST (Deemed to be University, Bengaluru, India), Aegean, Crete, and Peloponnese, at Visvanity Foundation (New Dehli, India), the Norwegian Institute at Athens, the Centre for European Constitutional Law (Athens, Greece), and the Hellenic Centre for European Studies. University of Athens

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, which was inaugurated on May 3, 1837, was initially housed in a renovated Ottoman building on the northeastern side of the Acropolis. This building has since been restored and now functions as the University Museum. Originally named the "Othonian University," after Otto, the first king of Greece, it consisted of four academic departments and 52 students. As the first university of the newly established Greek state, as well as of the broader Balkan and Mediterranean region, it assumed an important socio-historical role, which was pivotal in the development of specific forms of knowledge and culture within the country.
