A five-member team from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens participated in the 32nd International Mathematics Competition (IMC), held from 30 to 31 July 2025 in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria. Competing against 72 teams and 434 students from 44 countries, the team delivered an outstanding performance.
This year’s individual results were as follows:
Orestis Lignos (Department of Mathematics): First Prize.
Anastasios Pastos (Department of Mathematics): First Prize.
Ermis Souldatos (Department of Physics): Third Prize.
Ilias Gomatos and Themelis Mamouzelos (Department of Mathematics): Honourable Mentions.
The IMC is the world’s largest mathematics competition for undergraduate students. Organized by UCL since 1994, it brings together top Universities from Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Over two days, participants tackle ten problems—five each day—with five hours allocated to each session.
Since 2007-2008, the University of Athens—primarily through its Department of Mathematics—has taken part in the IMC, maintaining an impressive track record that reflects both the University’s academic excellence and the outstanding calibre of its student body.
